How it works

Share price × shares outstanding

The starting numbers are fictional examples. This calculator does not fetch market data or identify a suitable investment.

Count the shares, not just the price

A $25 share price multiplied by 40 million outstanding shares gives a $1 billion market capitalization. A lower share price alone does not make one company smaller or cheaper than another.

Shares outstanding can change through issuance, repurchases and splits. Companies with multiple share classes may need a more detailed calculation. Market capitalization excludes the debt and cash adjustments used in enterprise value.
